Brace yourself because a brand new season of Black America’s favorite socially conscious cartoon series “The Boondocks” has been confirmed, according to Shadow and Act. Back in March there was word the show may be returning for a fourth season. Regina King, the voice of Huey and Riley Freeman, shared in a radio interview that the creator was working on bringing it back, along with a feature film. “I talked to Aaron and it looks like they’re working things out. I’m trying to be positive. But you know you say one thing and the next thing you know it just fell apart. But it looks strong like we’re coming back.” Thursday confirmation came from the Adult Swim’s website, basically advertising the new season of the show.

MTV announced that it will move the start time of its “Video Music Awards” on Sept. 6 in Los Angeles so it won’t conflict with President Obama’s acceptance speech the same night at the Democratic National Convention. “We will be airing the “VMAs” on Thursday, September 6th from 8-10 p.m. as opposed to our traditional 9-11 p.m. time slot to avoid conflict with the Democratic National Convention proceedings that evening,” a MTV spokesperson told Deadline. The DNC has not said when exactly the president is scheduled to speak at the convention in Charlotte, N.C. Past nominees traditionally begin around 10 p.m. EST. This is the second broadcast schedule move around the president’s speech; the NFL said in February it was moving its 2012 regular-season opener on NBC from Sept. 6 to Sept. 5 (a Wednesday) to avoid conflicting with Obama.

“Cruel Summer,” an “immersive seven-screen experience” created by Kanye West and his ideas firm DONDA, is scheduled to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next week. The rapper announced today that he’ll present the short film, “inspired by the G.O.O.D. Music album Cruel Summer,” on Wednesday out of competition at the annual French event. The film will remain open to the public for two days following its premiere.

Morgan Freeman is in talks to join Michael Douglas and Robert De Niro in the cast of “Last Vegas.” The film is about four friends of retirement age who reunite in Sin City for one last blowout at the bachelor party of the only one of the pals who has stayed single. Jon Turtletaub will direct, according to Deadline.com. Lawrence Mark and Amy Baer are producing with CBS Films and Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane’s newly announced Good Universe.

Why was Donna Summer, who died Thursday of lung cancer, never inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Longtime member Elton John weighed in almost immediately following the singer’s death, calling the snub “a total disgrace.” Now, the person in charge of nominations to the Cleveland-based Hall has issued a blunt statement, blaming voters for the “error,” reports Billbaord.com. “There is absolutely no doubt that the extraordinary Donna Summer belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Jon Landau, the chairman of the nominating committee, told the New York Times. “Regrettably, despite being nominated on a number of occasions, our voting group has failed to recognize her — an error I can only hope is finally and permanently rectified next year.” Summer was nominated for this year’s class, but was passed over.  Inductees included Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Faces, Guns N’ Roses and The Beastie Boys.

The tour will resume in Atlanta on Monday, June 4 (see promo dates below—more dates and locations will be added in the coming weeks).   The promo tour will include other key press, radio, retail, church and conference events.

By Wednesday afternoon the news had spread about the passing of 75 year old R&B legend Chuck Brown, who formulated the pulsating beats known as “go-go” music. It’s rhythmic phrasings are a mix of calypso, funk, soul, jazz, dance hall and all else that makes for indescribable feel good music.  If you’re cool enough to know that Washington, D. C. has two nicknames, then you know that one of them is “Chocolate City,” the birthplace of go-go.  It was there in our nation’s capitol that the Chuck Brown sound resonated at clubs, parks and festivals.  Chuck’s early days date back to the 1960′s.  His discography ranges from 1972 to 2010, but it was 1979′s recording of “Busting Loose” (on Source Records) that put Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers on the map.

The annual hip-hop concert tour Rock The Bells announced its lineup  with Nas, Kid Cudi and Wiz Khalifa topping the bill, and a special performance due by Missy Elliott. Elliott, who revealed her battle with Graves’ disease last year and whose seventh studio album has been seven years in the making, will be making an “exclusive North American festival performance” at the festival series, which will roll through San Bernardino, Calif. on Aug 18-19, Mountain View, Calif. on Aug. 25-26, and Holmdel, N.J. on Sept. 1-2. The rapper’s longtime producer and collaborator, Timbaland, will join her for the performances. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony are also in the lineup and are expected to perform their 1995 classic album “E. 1999 Eternal” in its entirety. Method Man and Redman will team up to perform their 1999 album “Blackout!” as well. Other notable performers at this year’s festival include Lupe Fiasco, Salt-N-Pepa, Dipset, and all four members of the Black Hippy squad — Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock. The event will be hosted by RZA and Supernatural. Tickets for this year’s Rock The Bells events go on sale this Friday (May 18).
